Dota 2 Short Film Contest
It’s time to raise the curtain on the 2016 Dota 2 Short Film Contest.
From now until the morning of July 26th, 2016, filmmakers are invited to submit their short film creations to the Dota 2 Steam Workshop. Upon review of the Workshop ratings and discussions, Valve will nominate ten entries to be featured in The International 2016 Battle Pass for a final voting process by the community to determine the winners. The winning films will then be announced and showcased as part of The International 2016 broadcast, and while each nominee is guaranteed to win $500, the top three will take home prizes of $25,000, $10,000, and $5,000 for their efforts.
More information and guidelines on the submission process can be found on the Dota 2 Short Film Contest site.
Be sure to check in on the Workshop page regularly to help review the submissions you would like to see showcased at The International 2016.

The Manila Major Qualifiers
The Manila Major Qualifiers are just around the corner and by next week the final four qualifying teams will take their places alongside the 12 invites. Running May 3rd – 6th, the Regional Qualifiers will determine which remaining team in each region will earn a chance to do battle on the main stage of The Manila Major from June 7th – 12th.
As the regional teams battle for the coveted final spots, we would like to take the opportunity to give a larger group of casters the chance to cast higher profile games and join the established talents across the Russian, English, and Chinese languages for every qualifier match in both DotaTV and on stream. The schedule and streams for each game will be available here before the start of the qualifiers.
If you are interested in attending The Manila Major, weekday tickets are still available for purchase here.
Warhammer Comes to the Dota 2 Workshop
Today, the Dota 2 Workshop will begin accepting submissions for inclusion in a new Warhammer treasure, designed according to the visual themes of Games Workshop’sWarhammer Fantasy Battles universe. Because Warhammer’s aesthetics are similar in spirit to much of the Dota universe, we are looking forward to seeing all the content that Dota 2 Workshop artists create for fans in both communities. Submissions will be accepted until 10:00 a.m. (PDT) on August 22nd, 2016, and the treasure will be available for purchase on September 1st, 2016.
Total War: WARHAMMER is shipping May 24th on Steam. To celebrate the release, everyone who pre-purchases the game on Steam will receive a special version of the new Dota 2 treasure on September 1st. This special version will contain visually-unique pre-order-only versions of the treasure’s Warhammer themed items.
Visit the Dota 2 Workshop to submit and vote on entries. Use the “Warhammer” tag in the Dota 2 Workshop when making your submissions.
The Manila Major Invites
With The Manila Major just weeks away, we’re pleased to announce the teams that will be invited to the event. Congratulations to all of the players, we are looking forward to seeing them there.
We know that there will always be a talented team that doesn’t make it, which is difficult for both the fans of that team and the players themselves. Deciding on how to handle the direct invites to our four tournaments is a difficult process, and we don’t take a specific formulaic approach to which teams are invited or how many we invite.
A lot of things change during the year, from team compositions to new results in LAN tournaments, so we tend to take a more holistic approach to how we do invites. We try to always invite the teams that we think have demonstrated their ability to perform well, either from very strong recent results or from a longer history of top finishes. We also think it’s very important for the ecosystem as a whole if third-party LAN tournaments during the year are able to have a lasting impact on the Major invites, rather than largely depending on qualifiers.
For this Major, there will be 12 teams directly invited and 4 teams coming from the qualifiers. Head over to the team announcement page to find out who will be joining us in Manila.
We are always thinking about the mechanisms that create a healthy competitive environment in the long term, and are interested to hear what you think.
